"Fit & Proper" football club owners - when will football's governors learn? 13:58 - Feb 3 with 1643 viewsdavram

The ownership fiasco at DirtyLeeds continues, with maverick Italian corn magnate Cellino bidding for the club and now under consideration for "fit & proper" status by the Football League - & McDermott back as team manager after Cellino "sacked" him ....

BBC story here:

Why can't football's governors tighten their control?

Well - Jeremy Keith, Murdo Mackay, McKenzie, etc are thankfully long gone from DCFC, but could this sort of scenario still happen at DCFC?

It seems anyone in the world can use an English football club for it's financial shenanigans. The F.A. are supposed to monitor the situation but money talks around the Wembley scene were London bubblists rule and to hell with supporters located in the sticks, yes Wembley, the home of massive salaries and massive expense accounts, need more money, easy just arrange another two meaningless friendly internationals.

I think you've veered off from the header topic, me Owd - that is, the Football League's responsibility to establish & maintain watertight "Fit & Proper Persons" criteria for football club ownership - not to debate the separate scenario of the FA's manoevrings.

Without doubt, many of those in blazers within the two main ruling bodies of the sport are there for reasons other that their expertise. Most of us know that some people in many organisations just love the idea of having titles, "controlling" committees by clique and (gosh) even rubbing shoulders with more talented and/or famous people.

Such folk might well consider themselves above those that actually "do stuff", and perhaps they think that some sort of fairy dust could rub off on them by association.

But It's an entirely separate subject to debate the FA's ongoing efforts to claw back their massive committment to the funding of the new Wembley Stadium - and to their sponsors that will until time immemorial dictate the dominance of their overpriced showpiece - than the appeal that I posted for the Football League to finally show some b*lls when rogue owners are on the horizon!

Update - oh, dear!! LUFC now have a winding-up order to consider:

Further update - the revised bid that was set to displace the purchase of LUFC by the controversial Massimo Cellini has collapsed.

One of the consortium members withdrew as he is also part of the sponsorship partner that filed a winding-up petition against Leeds for unpaid amounts.

So, Cellini may after all be poised to gain control of LUFC - if the FL's 'fit & proper person's test' actually adjudges him suitable.

Hardly bodes for a stable future at Elland Road (though I do confess that's fine by me!)

Cellini may be triumphant in his Leeds takeover bid:

The football authorities have yet to approve Cellini as a 'fit and proper person' and await other documentation...

LUFC fans have shown disapproval of the prospect of Cellini's ownership....and what might become of deposed/reinstated manager McDermott now...?

Here's a slightly tongue-in-cheek approach from 4-4-2 magazine to the LUFC ownership situation:

If only the headline came true!
