The damming truth about giving 16 year olds the vote. on 08:44 - Jul 12 with 580 views | AnotherJohn | My fear is that too many 16 year olds would share the average Labour backbencher's belief in the magic money tree.

Between this and the Doc’s post, its end of thread. A most cynical way to capture idealistic voters who, in the main have absolutely no idea what they are voting for and could live to regret it for the rest of their lives. There has to be a cut off of course but 18 is about right. Even then, the knowledge of local or world politics is lacking generally. [Post edited 12 Jul 9:09]

The damming truth about giving 16 year olds the vote. on 09:10 - Jul 12 with 539 views | Boundy | All I can add is no sh*te Einstein (not directed at the OP) ,said it as others have in the past nothing but a cynical ploy to garner more votes from gullible impressionable kids and before anyone posts that kids can join the military at 16 ,yes they can but they're not given a weapon until its proven they're competent to do so.

These days I'd even say that 18 might be a bit young. In 1969 when it was dropped your average 18 year old had been working for two years. Now most are still in education of some sort. I'd increase it back to 21. I'd also bring in something similar to a driving licence for voters. You'd have to pass a test, perhaps online, that demonstrates an understanding of basic civics and how things work.

They are also less influenced by fake narratives and media influencers in the main stream media Gaza is a test for Western democracy and it is failing miserably.. We seniors look on as a genocide goes ahead for reasons of prejudice.

The damming truth about giving 16 year olds the vote. on 15:40 - Jul 12 with 324 views | ncswan | In the US it's 18, which was reduced from 21 by the 26th Amendment in 1971. "Old enough to fight, old enough to vote" was the rallying cry due to the Vietnam War and US Gov't drafting 18 yr olds to fight without having the right to vote at the time. There's been talk of introducing legislation to have it reduced to 16 but it won't pass on a federal level but could by individual states on a local/state level.
