'Bald Eagle' Jim Smith Forum in Derby, 13th December! 00:51 - Nov 11 with 3279 viewspkay_brum

Very interesting forum in store for Rams fans at the Metro Inn, Derby on 13th December:

http://www.capitalmevents.co.uk/

As well as 'The Bald Eagle', the forum will include Rams' promotion captain under Smith & Steve Mac, Robin van der Laan, and Tommy Johnson.

The promoter tells me that there will many other special guests in the audience, including Roy Mac, Ted McMinn, Bobby Davison, Craig Ramage, Trevor Hebberd to name a few - so the football banter is bound to flying around!

There will be video highlights of those Premier Rams' seasons in the Mid-90s Smith / Stimac era, along with heritage and merchandise attractions.

Tickets are going fast; the capacity is about 400 - should be a good night in store and maybe the Rams will be in or around the Top Six by that time?

It's a sell-out; looking forward to a good night of nostalgia and football natter tonight and it will be interesting to ask Jim if he thinks Steve Mac can replicate that heady 90's success with Derby in the modern era.

Hope to see some of you there!

One memorable quip from last night's event by Jim, discussing our red wooden neigbours: Jim said Steve McClaren went there to "set 'em back a year or two", and suggested that Wee Billy might set them back a few more years!

The noise from the capacity crowd was comparable to the roar at the iPro last Saturday as Chris Martin completed his hat-trick! Bald Eagle & Van Der Laan chants were loud & lusty!

The "Agent Mac" assignment in Nothingham is unequivocally confirmed!

Despite the fact that quite a noisy few in the audience were only interested in shouting beerily across their table at each other, paying little respect to those on stage or other attendees, it was an enjoyable evening.

Why do some people pay for a ticket to an event, turn up and then show interest only in their own pub talk throughout? Schoolkid stuff, and indeed mystifying.

Stupidest "question" of the night came from a "Man Utd fan", obviously venturing North for the night. He commented about Wanchope's wonder debut goal at Old Trafford in 1997 and asked Jim if he and Fergie had "fixed" the match to ensure Derby's survival.

The prat had obviously confused two seasons, and Wanchope with Malcolm Christie (an easy mistake), but such is my own expectation of the arrogant "elite" fan of this nature.

When Jim chatted with other fans after the Forum had closed, he gave us many more insights into his time at Derby and some typically very earthy comments about certain players, managers & chairmen.

He has the highest possible respect for Lionel Pickering - not so much for certain Rams directors of that time. Fill in your own colours!

See the above post! It was a "football forum", with a 400-seater sell-out crowd and featuring Jim Smith, Robbie van der Laan & Robbie Kozluk (depping for Tommy Johnson).

The MC was Nick Britten and the Q&A session was preceded by a comic/impressions turn by Les Gibson.

The Friday night crowd was fairly boisterous, so the beer fuelled quite a few of the questions, and many of these received suitably blunt responses.

Jim hasn't really changed - he now lives in sunny Spain and is in good health. He says that Derby County will always be his special club, and that he's dismayed about what his boyhood team Sheff Wed have been/are still going through.

He's in regular touch with Steve Mac & lots of other former colleagues & players, and said he picked up a really positive buzz around DCFC last week during his Moor Farm visit.

There was also a good range of Rams merchandise on offer there, including the Premier Rams DVD (new digital reissue of the great 1995/96 Smith-McClaren promotion season at the Baseball Ground).

Fans will have another pre-Christmas opportunity to pick up the "Bald Eagle" DVD (not available in DCFC's shop) in the DW Soccerdome (opposite the iPro Stadium) before next Saturday's home match - and also meet author Peter Seddon, who'll be signing copies of his new book "The Men Who Made The Rams" (Origins & Who's Who of DCFC 1884-1888), from around 12-2pm.

It's surely essential reading for Rams fans - be there Sam, or miss another great event!
