Town boss Paul Jewell was in Holland to run the rule over Heracles Almelo keeper Remko Pasveer earlier in the month. The Blues manager revealed at last Thursday’s press conference that he had watched a match abroad the day before the Barnsley game.

Jewell saw Heracles lose 2-0 at ADO Den Haag with Pasveer understood to be the reason for his visit.

The 28-year-old, the son of former FC Twente keeper Eddie Pasveer, was initially with his father’s old club, where he was second choice until 2006 when he moved to Heracles.

The 6ft 1in tall Enschede-born stopper, a non-playing member of the victorious Dutch squad at the 2006 U21 European Championship, spent time on loan with Go Ahead Eagles in the Eerste Divisie (second tier) between 2008 and 2010 where he became a regular first-teamer, before returning to his parent club. Since then he has established himself as the first choice with the Eredivisie (top flight) side.

Heracles Almelo chairman Jan Smit says his club is yet to be contacted by the Blues or anyone else regarding the highly-rated Pasveer, who is contracted until 2014: “Every week there are scouts from England, Germany and Italy in our stands, but there is nothing concrete at the moment.”

Even before David Stockdale’s return to Fulham, Jewell was very much in the market for a new keeper and on Thursday the Town manager confirmed that he will be looking to add to that area of his squad in January.
