Town, Leeds and Bristol City are battling it out for Derby County striker Steve Davies, according to tabloid reports. The Whites are claimed to be ready to launch a £1 million offer for the 24-year-old with the Blues and Robins also said to be interested.

The Town link may due to Blues boss Paul Jewell having signed Davies from Tranmere for a fee which could have risen as high as £725,000 had various clauses been triggered when manager at Pride Park.

Injuries - including a fractured skull last October - have limited Davies to only 55 starts and 39 sub appearances in his four years with Derby, scoring 23 goals, 12 of them in 2011/12.

Davies has only a season remaining on his current contract and as a result the Rams are claimed to be looking to sell the 6ft 1in tall Liverpudlian.

However, they only recently took up the option of an additional year on a deal he signed in February 2011 with manager Nigel Clough appearing to have him in his plans earlier this month: “If he started 40-odd games you'd think he could get 20 goals. His record suggests that.

"He has proved he can score goals at this level. Of all the strikers we have, he is the most natural finisher.”
