A look at the clubs online ticketing system shows limited availibility for the visit of Sunderland on Saturday.

According to the online ticketing system Saints have only around 1,000 tickets available for sale in the general seating areas, Sunderland have taken an allocation of just under 1,800 tickets, all of which their official club site is saying have been sold.

This means that block 43 in the Northam Stand is available for sale to Saints supporters and it is in this block that the bulk of the available seats in the stadium are situated with aroun 700 or so of the 1,000 still available.

Elsewhere in the ground it seems to be pretty much sold out with only the block of seats directly behind the Chapel goal still being unsold in that end and even the Itchen/Chapel corner showing very limited availibility, that section of the ground usually being where any spare seats are situated en masse when the crowd is less than a sell out.

A quick count up on the on line system shows that in total there can only be around a thousand tickets left although it doesnt account for corporate areas.

In truth im surprised at the take up for this game, I would have thought that given the local aspect of the game, that the Reading fixture would have attracted more interest than the visit of the Black Cats, however that appears not to be the case.

Usually the last weekend before Xmas sees a downturn in attendances and that was another reason why after a relatively poor turnout for the vital Reading game, I was worried that this match would see far less, especially given that there will be around 800 less visiting supporters in attendance, but perhaps the fact that there is no Boxing Day home game this year and indeed we are also away on the Saturday between Xmas  New Year aligned with the fact that this is now a very vital game has prompted many who might otherwise not have gone to buy a ticket.

So if you are planning on going and have not yet bought a ticket, the message is get down there or get on line fast, a late surge could see a sell out prior to Saturday or if there are tickets left on the day, congestion at the ticket office prior to kick off.

Support has been good at St mary's this season given the increased costs of a ticket, Arsenal is already sold out as you would expect, however this is a far more important game than the visit of the Gunners, lets fill those last seats and roar the team on to another home victory.

Ac ouple of factors may have made the differnce

1. The price of tickets £30 as opposed to £35 for Reading
2. The fact that with Arsenal already sold out, it's the only chance left for some to see a game over Christmas period

...and a lot of fans who grew up around Southampton but live elsewhere in the country/world return to their Southampton family homes at Xmas. Can't wait to see my first game of the season. COYR
