Leon Britton believes that the Swans should ignore the interest in their midfielder Ferrie Bodde

Britton and Bodde were essential parts of our midfield as the Swans marched towards the League One title last season and Britton does not want to see Bodde leave despite reports that the bidding could be set to pass the £1m barrier very soon.

With the prospect of a second Swansea player in twelve months leaving for the magical seven figure barrier, Swans fans already seem a little bit split as to whether a figure of that value would be enough to persuade them to part with the man signed only last summer from ADO Den Haag.

But money is not something that was on Britton's mind as he told the Western Mail that it would be extremely difficult to replace Ferrie's contribution to the side and it was important that the Swans held onto him if possible.

“Of course it’s important we keep Ferrie,” he said. “Like everyone here, I really hope the club makes sure he stays.

“It’s not hard to see how much he brings to this team. He settled in very quickly and his vision and passing is just brilliant.

“Players like that are really hard to find. If he does go, it won’t be easy to replace Ferrie.

“Playing alongside him in midfield you get to see how he influences a game.

“He sees things and find passes that a lot of players wouldn’t even think of.

“I know if I make a run that Ferrie will usually find me. He has got that vision and it helps keep the team moving.

“He is a top player, especially in League One last year. He will be looking to do the same in the Championship.

“Moving up a division you have to keep your best players,” he said. “It’s a tough league and it’s important to keep the squad that got you there together.

“Clubs need to strengthen in order to survive after promotion. You have to avoid anything that will weaken the team at all costs.

“That’s definitely the case with Ferrie. He is a vital player for us and we will need him in the Championship.”
