Higgy v Flounders - who's the longest?
Higgy v Flounders - who's the longest?

Kallum Higginbotham's goal at the weekend brought back all sorts of memories, and got us wondering if it was the longest ever goal scored by a Dale player.

Kallum Higginbotham's 95th minute goal on Saturday has been the talk of the town ever since. For those not in attendance, Higginbotham fired home from just inside the Accrington half.

But the goal wasn't the first time that Dale had scored a goal of that kind, and it brought back memories of a certain Andy Flounders goal from the very early 1990's.

When Dale played Lincoln City in December 1992, they romped to a 5-1 victory with one of the goals coming courtesy of a similar effort from Andy Flounders - an £80,000 signing from Scunthorpe United.

So which one was further out?

Well thanks to the wonders of modern technology, TVOS and someone doing TV rips for the benefit of Accrington, we can bring you conclusive proof of which was the furthest out.

This was Flounders' goal from 1992. If you click on the image, it will provide a YouTube clip of the goal.

And here is Higgy's goal from the weekend.

Well from the images above, you have to say that it would appear that Higginbotham's goal was further out than Flounders' based on the position of both players in comparison to the centre circle.

Do you know of any Dale goals scored from further out? Did the Steve O'Shaunessy free kick take place from a further distance out? Or has Kallum Higginbotham scored the longest Dale goal in the club's history?
