The fiery midfielder has been in negotiations with the club with his contract up for renewal at the end of the season,but has been unable to reach a satisfactory agreement. Manager John Hollins says, " Unfortunately, this type of thing is inevitable these days, with freedom of contract. The clubs are powerless to prevent it.We have not drawn a line under the issue. We are still discussing terms, and we might still reach agreement." Thomas will always be remembered at the Vetch for his scorcher against West Ham in the FA Cup in January 1999, which saw the Premiership giants toppled 1-0. Since Alan Cork signed Thomas from Fulham on a free transfer in June 1998, he has gone on to make 87 league appearances, scoring 8 times. His availability is sure to alert his former managers, Cork at Cardiff, and Micky Adams, who had him at Fulham, and is now in charge at Brighton.
