To Put The Story Straight

Home > Story Index >To Set The Record Straight

To start with, I don't know who leaked this information but if whoever it was had had the common sense to have a look at the envelope they would have seen that it carried a Swansea postmark. John never received the tickets, they were returned by the guy who deals with his fan-mail and he is based in Swansea.
John loves Swansea. Every year he donates thousands of pounds to terminally ill children and visits hospitals week in week out. When he is back in Swansea he will go to the Vetch to watch the side that he has supported all his life. And people still want to question whether he is a true fan or not? Unbelievable.
To criticise him over a few raffle tickets is quite simply ridiculous. And to people who think that this makes him not a Swansea fan I say get a life and think before you speak. If anyone is a jack then John is and I hope I have put this record straight.
JackArmy.net adds - I was fortunate, along with Keith Haynes to meet John Hartson back last summer when we were putting the finishing touches to Roger's book. Despite being with the Welsh squad, John had all the time in the world for Roger and us and was willing to do anything for some fellow Jacks. You will have noticed that John endorsed Roger's book with the words "I have watched Roger play so many times I have lost count. He is safe and solid, as a youngster I admired him as a player, and as a fellow professional today that admiration has not decreased"
This I think is indication of the fact he is a Swansea fan and to Roger it was a honour to play with John Hartson but that feeling was completely mutual - John considered it an honour to play with Roger.
Putting this into perspective, it is 30 raffle tickets we are talking about. The trust has 1400 members - do you think all of them have sold their 30? I very much doubt it. We have received many e-mails on this subject in the last couple of days and we will leave you with the words of one of them.

"Phil

Having browsed through the message board on the Jackarmy website -surely the slagging of John Hartson is nothing short of a disgrace!!

Who is the board member of the Trust - giving the information with regards to tickets being sent back by John. Don't people understand the Data Protection Act?

There'll be another 30 unsold tickets in the post tomorrow!"

The trust raffle is a great idea but we must remember that although the principle of every member selling 30 tickets is a great one - in reality it will not happen. Let's concentrate on getting as many sold as possible and not concentrating on who doesn't sell tickets. Even though Vic H has made her feelings clear on the subject, anyone who doesn't sell them will have their own reasons.
