League Two Clubs In Friendly Action

Friendly Round-Up

Plenty of action for the league two clubs today with just three weeks to go until the season starts. As well as the Swans 3-1 win at Worcester, this is the round up of league two clubs in action

There was five goals for Macclesfield as they triumphed 5-1 away at Congleton Town. Goals for the Silkmen came from Matthew Tipton (2), Martin Carruthers, Danny Whittaker and Neil Ross. There was a win as well for the returning Shrewsbury Town as they picked up a 3-2 win at Northwich thanks to goals from Duane Darby (2) and Ian Fitzpatrick.

Not such good news for Kidderminster though as they lost 2-1 to Gloucester City where they never really stood a chance after gifting the non league side two first half goals. Yeovil were another side on the wrong end of a scoreline as they lost 2-1 to Bournemouth for whom Dani Rodrigues grabbed a brace.

Title favourites Northampton were victors but only just as they edged out Lewes by the odd goal in five. Lewes - at their superbly named ground the Dripping Pan - were three down just after the break but pulled two back in the second half to give the scoreline respectability. Steve Morrison, Tom Youngs and Scott McGleish were on target for the Cobblers.

It was a 2-0 win for Cambridge at Braintree as goals from Guttridge and Turner a minute either side of the break secured the win. Much attention on the game at Oxford as Jose Mourinho picked his first Chelsea line up and saw them held to a 1-1 draw by their hosts. Tommy Mooney, newly arrived from Swindon put the U's up in the first half.

Cheltenham also held Premiership opposition as they drew 1-1 with Birmingham at Whaddon Road. 4,200 had something to cheer when Odejayi cancelled out Muzzy Izzet's goal with just 18 minutes to go.

Daryl Russel's goal for Stoke was enough to give them a 1-0 win at Field Mill against Mansfield whilst Boston had to settle for a 0-0 draw at Kings Lynn and finally Notts County's trip to North Devon saw them win 4-2 at Bideford Town. Gavin Gordon took his pre season tally to three in two games whilst Stefan Oakes and Glynn Hurst (twice) were also on target for Notts.

Finally, former Swan Roger Freestone had an unhappy second debut for Newport County as they crashed 4-1 to Bristol City. Paul Heffernan, Steven Gillespie (2) and Lee Miller were the men to beat Roger.
