Stoke City look set to put in a bid for Kelvin Davis

It must be something about the air in the Potteries, but it seems they sure do like their ex saints players, not content with having Ricardo Fuller, Rory Delap, Andrew Davies and even Vincent Pericard (Ok I know this one is a little tenuos) they now seem set to bid for Kelvin Davis.

If the rumour is correct they have tabled a £1.25 million bid for Davis who arrived for £1 million two years ago.

In truth most Saints supporters wouldnt be too upset to hear this, Davis has never really impressed at St Mary's, indeed two of the four league goals conceded so far, should have seen the keeper do a little better.

The departure of Davis would of course bring in much needed transfer funds, not to mention remove a sizeable chunk off the wage bill, however it would then leave Saints with a problem on whom to replace him with, Bart Bialkowski seems to be second choice keeper at the moment and despite the fact that he seems to be strugging with confidence, we do know that he can perform at this level, so perhaps a promotion to first choice would restore that confidence.

The other options would be Tommy Forecast, who although highly rated is completely untried at first team level anywhere, or perhaps getting in an experienced keeper on loan in the short term, the loan spell of Richard Wright last season proved that there are decent keepers out there available using this method.

In truth though if this deal happens it could be good business for Saints and it might ease the pressure on Saints to accept a bid for Andrew Surman.
