Too Much Anti-Cardiff Singing

We're Swansea City.........

When we left the Vetch I knew that there were some things that we were leaving behind there. The legendary North Bank toilets which I am sure still had every drop I ever shook still on the floor somewhere. The obstructed view - what was it about the North Bank that made it almost impossible to see every part of the pitch? The Kenco coffee refreshement centre which is almost as legendary in Swansea as the Slip Bridge but not so widely discussed. And finally, I hoped some of our unnerving fascinations.

But yesterday confirmed to me that we hadn't left some of these behind. The sound of 'Stand up if you hate Cardiff' rung loud several times around the stadium as did SHAP.

What was quite noticeable though that so fewer people joined in with the SHAP song indeed I did think that several around me felt distinctly uncomfortable with it's singing. But that aside it was another song about Cardiff City.

Last night on the message board one of the regular Cardiff posters mentioned that last season they included in the programme at Ninian Park a request from the club to cut down on the amount of anti-Swansea songs and it got me thinking. Should we do the same? The response at Ninian is supposed to be one that has worked and that more and more songs have become pro-Cardiff and to be perfectly honest I would much rather hear pro-Swansea songs. Indeed, I be as bold as to predict that a stadium singing pro-Swansea songs will be louder and much more effective in actually lifting the team.

I do wonder what the obsession is with Cardiff City. The local rivalry part I understand, the adrenalin rush of a derby game I can understand, the wanting to do better than them I can understand. The need to stand up and deliver this message when we are beating Doncaster 1-0 at White Rock I don't understand.

Surely at that point in time we are better getting behind the team. Or do the team react to any noise? And before anyone thinks it, getting behind the team doesn't involve singing " give us a wave"

Yesterday as we left the stadium disappointed I have heard people saying "Oh well, at least Cardiff lost" Which I am sure makes everything okay?

With the move to the new stadium we have the chance to really get behind the team and turn White Rock into an arena where the support gets behind the team.

Every team has a Rival. At how many grounds do you actually hear the level of songs about their Rivals as you do at White Rock?

What can we do about it? Well, if the club requesting it worked at Ninian Park then would the club requesting it work at White Rock. Of course, it would need to be a united effort from all concerned but we are the Jack Army and we can do it.

Can't we?
