Away Days - Oldham Athletic

Away Days - Oldham Athletic

So the second away trip of the season was the long trip to glorious Oldham, there were two Official coaches today, which left the Quadrant at 7.30. It was due to be a quiet journey as stan_the_jack was nowhere to be seen. But the legend that is Ugo was back in charge, so we were all on our best behaviour.

I was sitting near substitute_jack, who decided to turn up today - no sign of him at Scunthorpe - and his mate Ollie (who also wanted a mention in this article - so hello to him) also nearby two of my other mates Jon and Leigh from Pembroke Dock, as we looked forward to the trip up north.

That's the boring part out of the way! This was the second away game within the space of the week and the talk on the coach was of what Swansea team will turn up and where Jackett would play them! The pessimism was made worse as we watched the Swansea City 05/06 review on the coach, hoping those defensive errors and failing to hold onto a lead would not repeat itself this coming season.

After a service stop at Strensham again at around 10.30, we arrived at Oldham at around 2.30 - after a pub stop for an hour in Rochdale; it was my second visit to Boundary Park, it's mostly all seated, with some unused terracing on the sides. The pitch was much better to when we were last there time and the view was quite good from behind the goal. It's also meant to be the coldest ground in Britain - a little fact for you.

The programme had the usual information, nothing to shout about and again, it only included 4 pages on the Swans, but none the less it's another one to add to the collection.

The less said about the game the better, but the journey home was a very interesting on to say the least! The main discussion was who would replace Jackett, should he be sacked/resign/chased out/assassinated. Among the suggestions were Jose Mourinho, Les Ferdinand, Brian Flynn and Ugo, but there were more serious suggestions of Peter Reid, Joe Royle and David Penney.

There was also a new rendition of 'Blame it on the Boogie' sung by a few of us, with the lyrics changed to Blame it on the Jackett! So it was a pretty wasted journey really, 10 hours travelling to watch a pile of rubbish , but there we go I had nothing better to do.

I arrived back in Swansea at 9:45pm at the Docks; I did ponder about whether to jump in but decided against it. (Which may disappoint some!) Let's hope we will improve in London in a week and a half's time, when the Swans travel to Leyton Orient.
