The Painters Are In Town

The Painters Are In Town

Marcos Painter will be watched by many members of his family tomorrow as the Swans return to his native West Midlands searching for their first league win of the new season.

In much the same way that it's "Meet The Robinsons" when the Swans go into the North West, the Painters will be in tomorrow as the Swans face Walsall and the ever impressive defender says that the away end will be full off the Brummie 'twang' all backing the Swans to get three points.

"I love going back to the Midlands because my family and friends can get along to watch." Painter told the Evening Post

"I've got to get a load of tickets sorted for this weekend and I think the away end will be full of Brummies.

"There's a bit of rivalry between Brummies and people from the Black Country and it's always nice to get one over on them.

"A win tomorrow would be the perfect way for me to do that."

Painter has impressed almost constantly since he made the switch from St Andrews last season - after an initial loan spell - and together with Angel Rangel he appears to be forming one of the most formidable full back pairings in the division. Painter's calm collected approach to the game is paying dividends in a position which the Swans have not always filled with great assurance in years gone by.

Painter is a Birmingham City by heart and it was his home town club that he left to join the Swans but he is all to aware of Walsall and their stadium having watched his Blues there on several occasions in the past "I was a Blues fan, and I remember going to watch them play Walsall a few times

"They're neighbours, so it gives you that extra drive to want to beat them.

"Walsall have had a fair few managers in the past few years, but they have got one now who seems to have done a really good job.

"They did well last season to win League Two and they will be hard to beat again this season."

Painter was one of the few first team regulars who started against Walsall at the Liberty Stadium ten days ago and he has also started both league games this season although he openly admits that the start is not quite what everyone had in mind

"We knew it wasn't going to be an easy start, but the lads have shown everyone what we have got in this squad

"In the two league games especially, we've played some good football and been unfortunate not to come away with wins from both.

"We haven't got the points on the board as yet, though, and that's something we'd like to change this weekend.

"We need to get moving because every point we drop now we'll have to pick up further down the line.

"But I'm confident that if we keep playing the way we have been, we'll soon be winning games.

"I know I can do better. If the manager brings in another left-back then the competition will be good for the team.

"It might help me move up a gear, too, which is something I know I can do. I'll keep working hard and I know things will come together for me."
