MacDonald Believes Euro Success Can Be Obtained Thursday, 21st Aug 2008 20:33 Shaun MacDonald believes that Wales can still make the Under 21 playoffs despite the setback this week MacDonald played most of the match on Wednesday as the Under 21s went down 1-0 to their Romanian counterparts in Wrexham meaning they need to win the return match next month to reach the play offs for next years finals. A victory on Wednesday would have seen the Welsh secure that place after an excellent campaign that had seen them come from nowhere to the verge of the next stage. But despite the set back the Swansea midfielder - who scored his first goals for the Swans last week - believes that they can still qualify for the finals and he looked ahead to the challenge by saying "We definitely have the right mentality to get the victory we need in Romania. We have made it hard for ourselves but we can still do it. "I take the blame for their goal. I gave away a sloppy free-kick some 40 yards out and it ended up in our net. "We were shocked by what happened — we believed we could get the victory we needed. "But we must keep our heads up and believe we can still do it. We have a great bunch of lads and we have worked really hard to get to this point, so I hope our team spirit can drag us through now. "We will be okay if we stick together. It was gutting because Romania only had that one serious chance, and we created lots of chances. "The positive thing for all of us is that we did create plenty of chances, we just have to do it again in Romania and take a few this time." Brian Flynn will announce his squad for the crunch qualifier next week. Photo: Action Images Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
