Swansea Chairman Huw Jenkins says he is happy with the home-grown rule that is coming into force

From next season Swansea City will have to include at least four players in every matchday squad that has come through the ranks of an English club.

And Huw Jenkins believes that it will goa  long way to helping reduce wage bills and bringing some clubs onto an even keel within the league structure.

Speaking to the Evening Post, the Chairman said "We are fully behind the new home-grown players rule and actually want the league to go further

"We feel the parachute payments clubs receive after relegation from the Premier League should be stopped because that would help young players in this country develop.

"The three clubs coming down currently share £30million. That money should be split between every team in the Championship and spent on youth development. As it stands, the clubs receiving the payments are pushing the wages in the division out of control.

"Clubs should look after their own contracts. They should have clauses regarding what happens if they are promoted or relegated so they don't need parachute payments.

"At the moment the clubs are not strong enough and that means there is too much money around to throw at players.

"It's a step forward because clubs will have to keep at least four localised players on their books," he added.

"In our case, we do have our share of players who wouldn't count as one of the four because of our overseas signings.

"But having said that, we have a good balance in our squad. We have more Welsh players than Cardiff, for example, and we have a number of young British players in our ranks."
