Alan Tate says it would be brilliant if the Swans grabbed Danny Webber

The Swans vice-captain played with Webber as a youngster at Old Trafford and thinks that he would make a more than useful addition to the Swans squad as Paulo Sousa looks to strengthen before the transfer window closes.

Tate told the Evening Post "As players we would like to see signings, of course we would

"We all want to see the squad strengthened because it means we will be better off during the season.

"But whether something happens or not, we will have to see over the next 10 days or so. Who knows what will happen? Only the manager and the chairman can tell you about that.

"It's one thing saying you want to make signings, but it's another actually getting them done.

"I heard about Webbs, he is a good player who would be brilliant if he came in.

"He is sharp and is a good finisher, but we players can't do anything about all that. It's up to the manager to bring in who he wants.

"I would encourage players to come here, definitely," he says.

"This is a stable club, whereas you look at the biggest club in the league, Newcastle, and they are the most unstable.

"That is important.

"I think if you want to come here and improve you will do well because the club will give you the chance to do it.

"No-one is going to get on your back quickly if you come here.

"I don't see why we can't do at least as well as we did last season," Tate continues.

"When you think of all the draws we had, we can actually lose a few games this year and still improve so long as we take our chances.

"I am not just talking about the forwards, it's about everyone taking their chances.

"I had a good chance myself against Reading and, although the flag went up, I should have hit the net.

"Nathan (Dyer) had a good chance at the end, so you can't just talk about the strikers.

"I know I only usually get one a season — two if you include what happens in training — but it's up to all of us to chip in."
