Sousa: It Should Be A Football Decision

Paulo Sousa has called on his transfer targets to think about football not money

Sousa was speaking towards the end of a busy week at the Liberty although at the same time it had been a frustrating one as none of his targets had been signed in time for the weekend trip to Coventry.

Sousa and Huw Jenkins have both hit out this week at the wage demands of players pricing the Swans out of the market - something that Sousa struggles to comprehend as he claims he made his decisions for football and not financial reasons.

Speaking to the Evening Post, Sousa said "I need to respect the ideas of everyone, but when I was a player, my decision was about being happy with my football.

"Football players are lucky — they normally have enough money to live well wherever they play.

"The important thing is to find the best way to enjoy your football and I always thought like that.

"I can tell you one story from when I was playing. I had two clubs in Italy who wanted to sign me. They proposed the same length of contract, with three years, but there was a big difference in the money they were offering.

"But I made my decision based not on the money but on the team. I took the best decision and I'm proud of that.

"This city is a great environment for each player and each manager," he went on.

"Everyone who comes here feels very welcome. People care about us.

"We have a nice stadium and a nice pitch to play good football and we enjoy the way we play.

"We have all the most important things you need to offer a player to make sure he enjoys his life playing football."
