Swansea City suffered a nightmare last ten minutes as they missed a penalty and conceded two at Carrow Road

It looked for all the money as if the Swans were about to secure a vital victory when they were awarded a spot kick before the joy turned to sorrow as David Cotterill saw his spot kick saved by the home keeper.

And to rub salt in the wounds an Ashley Williams own goal and a last gasp volley from Simeon Jackson saw the Swans return home empty handed other than a sixth successive away defeat in the league.

An Ashley Williams own goal three minutes from time helped Norwich claim all three points at Carrow Road.

The Wales defender could only turn in Anthony McNamee's cross from the left as he attempted to clear.

The goal came moments after Norwich keeper John Ruddy brought down Scott Sinclair but made amends by saving David Cotterill's penalty.

Simeon Jackson wrapped up the win in injury time by turning in Grant Holt's cross via the crossbar.

The Canaries started the brighter, with Chris Martin looking particularly dangerous down the left, although their first chance came from the right wing.

Holt picked up the ball 25 yards out and laid off to Korey Smith, who shot first-time from the edge of the area, only for Dorus de Vries to save with his legs.

However, Swansea's Dutch goalkeeper was struggling to deal with Martin's crosses from the left and he was also nowhere to be seen from Andrew Surman's deep corner midway through the first half.

But Welshman Andrew Crofts should have done better at the far post instead of heading just wide.

It seemed to lift the visitors who gained a foothold on the game and almost punished Norwich immediately when Darren Pratley headed over from David Cotterill's corner.

Then Stephen Dobbie was out of luck seeing his shot from Scott Sinclair's pass deflect wide off Elliott Ward.

Pratley was involved again in the closing stages freeing Nathan Dyer down the right to pull back to the edge of the area where Cotterill was, but the Wales international blasted well over.

And Ward came to Norwich's rescue in first-half time with a last-gasp block to deny Pratley from eight yards.

Neither side were prepared to fight out a draw and Wes Hoolahan attempted to trouble De Vries with a long-range effort.

But it was Sinclair who almost produced a piece of individual magic bursting into the box before Canaries keeper John Ruddy dived at his feet to deny the former Chelsea winger.

Sinclair was involved again soon after doing the hard work for Dobbie who shot straight at Ruddy.

Swansea were starting to assert more of the pressure and looked like making the breakthrough seven minutes from time when Ruddy brought down Sinclair.

He was fortunate to have stayed on the pitch and made amends by diving the right way to turn Cotterill's low penalty on to his right-hand post.

The Swans were to be punished in cruel fashion four minutes later when Williams tried stop substitute McNamee's left-hand cross, only to put it past De Vries.

And as the visitors pressed for an equaliser Norwich broke free down the right, captain Holt delivered a floating ball into the box for Jackson to volley home in injury time.
