Mark Gower believes that Fabio Borini was the breath of fresh air that the Swans needed after his two goal debut

Borini made his Swansea City start on Saturday and scored twice - and could have had more - as the Swans defeated Nottingham Forest 3-2.

It was just the perfect tonic that returned the Swans to winning ways after picking up just one point from the previous nine and Gower says that Borini was not intimidated by the occasion and elected just to play his natural game.

"I thought he was a breath of fresh air," Gower told the Evening Post. "He came into the game with no inhibitions. He hasn't played against the likes of (Wes) Morgan before, while the other lads have. He didn't know what to expect and that's what you get from a youngster.

"He didn't care how fast they were or how good they were, he just played his normal game.

"He had no respect for anyone and he could have had a hat-trick on his debut.

"You can't doubt the manager when you look at the players he's brought in

"Look at what a good season Scotty has had, then he brings another lad in who scores two goals on his debut.

"Hopefully for us he will get better, but whatever happens we've got three good strikers on the books at the moment.

"A new face can give the whole squad a lift and I think he's done that and we're looking forward to the next game. He came in and he was lively and bright from day one.

"You wouldn't think he was 19. He's confident, strong, quick and he's technically gifted so he'll fit right in here.

"If you look at the scoreline and the game, they are two different stories," added Gower.

"We played really well and we won. As for their goals, I don't think we'll get hung up on them because we don't need to."

He added: "When you get to the business end of the season and you go three games without a win, doubts creep into players' heads.

"That's why it was important to get a good result on Saturday and play well. We did both."
