Georgia on Brian's mind?
Georgia on Brian's mind?

Brian McDermott is set to name a Reading old-boy to the ranks of Leeds United and it isn't Ian Harte (yet!) 31-year-old Georgian centre-back Zurab Khizanishvili is available on a free after his contract with Turkish club Kayserispor expired.

Khizanishvili is no stranger to English football or McDermott. He spent five-years with Blackburn Rovers and twice McDermott took him on loan to Reading where he helped them to the 2011 play-off final.

The much travelled defender started his career in his home town of Tibilisi playing for Dinamo, Norchi and Lokomotiv before moving to Dundee in 2001. He played for Rangers before turning a Blackburn loan move into a permanent deal. As well as playing on loan at Reading, he had a spell at Newcastle before going to Turkey in 2011.

I'm pretty sure we've linked with him before. Although I feel we could do with some cover at centre-half, his age and free status will inevitably cause some concern amongst the fans that once again we are in the market for ageing freebie cast-offs.

Hopefully the fact that the rumour has appeared in the notoriously inaccurate Sportsmail will mean thankfullt there is nothing in it, like the Ian Harte rumours last week.
