Chairman's Words Give Us Confidence
Wednesday, 21st Aug 2013 06:14

And so Huw Jenkins has re-stated the Swans position in terms of their star players are not for sale and that any potential move from Arsenal will be rejected as rumours increase that they are about to move for both Ash and Michu.

The Swans have long since stated their ambition to not be pushed into any sale for any of their stars and that position doesn't appear to have been changed despite reports of a £35m bid for the pair.

The story almost faded into insignificance yesterday as reports that Real Madrid were about to make a £93m move for Gareth Bale but it was still enough for Huw Jenkins to come out and state the club's position on the rumours when he told the Western Mail

“Nothing has changed, there has been no contact, as far as our football club is concerned, in connection with anybody.

“And we wouldn’t welcome any bids.

“The overriding point from our football club is that we are not looking to sell any of our players and they are not up for sale.

“We want to strengthen our squad, we feel we’ve done that and we continue to look forward to the season ahead. That has not changed.”

They are refreshing words to hear although any cynic will tell you that they are easy words to make when there has been no formal bid and how easy is it to turn down when you have a massive offer being made at the other end of the phone. However, the club this summer have shown a clear extent to build the squad and everyone can see that any sale of either Michu and Ash or even both would be a weakening of that squad so it would seem counter productive to sell no matter how much money is on the table.

The transfer window is heading into it's last 13 days and with no move yet from Arsenal I still believe that this is nothing more than paper talk and even if it was then we look to be in a strong position and we can hope (and believe) that the Chairman's words ring true.
