Leeds the Kings of the Keepmoat yet again
Leeds the Kings of the Keepmoat yet again

Leeds continued their remarkable record in Doncaster's relatively new stadium with another win here. The Whites' stormed into South Yorkshire and took all three points with a 3-0 win. Although Doncaster may have trumped us in the 2008 League One play-off finals, they have yet to beat us at the Keepmoat.

Brian McDermott made just one change from the side who drew 3-3 with Watford, Tom Lees was recalled so Sam Byram dropped to the bench and Lee Peltier shuffled over to right-wing back. There was no room on the Leeds bench yet again for former Rovers favourite El Hadji Diouf and surely the Senegalese will be looking for a new club come January?

It was a difficult day condition wise with the wind wafting around the stadium, but having gone close minutes earlier, Matt Smith nodded Leeds in front on 19 when Doncaster-born Mowatt whipped in a free-kick for the big striker to get his head to. I'm amazed that Paul Dickov, the Rovers boss who managed Smith at Oldham last season still cannot get it through to his players that Smith is an aerial threat! I seem to recall he also scored with his head when we visited here in August for the League Cup 2nd round clash which we won 3-1.

McCormack might have doubled our lead on the half-hour mark but his shot fizzed over. Smith also glanced a header just wide before the break but it was a good showing by Leeds in the first half and we deservedly went into the break in front.

However we were somewhat overrun in the second half as no doubt stinging from Dickov's half time team talk, the natives were fast out the trap and seriously began to trouble Paddy Kenny. Wellens went close, Theo Robinson had the ball in the net on 69 minutes but thankfully for us it was ruled out for offside. Apparently it was a contentious decision but it was difficult for me to see from where I was standing!

However it served as a wake up call for Leeds and on 76 McCormack grabbed his 17th of the season, the Scot made some space for himself on the left, beating two defenders and powering home to knock the stuffing out of the hosts.

And 12 minutes later, the Scot turned provider by swinging in a cross which looked bound for Smith's head, he couldn't quite get there but Rudy Austin did and our influential skipper smashed home our third to send the sickened home fans swarming for the exits, although I do suspect there were quite a few Leeds fans in the home stands.

The win means we climb back up to sixth and I think if anybody had told me we would enter the festive period in the play-off places I would have definitely taken it as being more than a good Christmas present.
