There appears to be a ripple of rumour on the Internet suggesting that Leeds could turn to a 36 year old French striker who has scored more than his fair share of goals against us?

Apparently the link comes from a planned visit to Austria next week by David Haigh, our current MD. Haigh, who is currently leading a takeover of the ckub has apparently predicted that ER will be "rocking" on Saturday, with all due respect to our next up opponents Barnsley who we normally make extremely hard-work of beating or lose to, does this mean that we might get an early Christmas present?

Austria of course is where Red Bull is based. Haigh is known to have high-profile network contacts at the energy drink giants which spawned the story at the start of the season that we were going to become the latest bit of the Red Bull growing sporting portfolio, which provoked an aghast response from some quarters that we could end up as the Leeds Red Bulls playing at the Red Bull arena.

As well as Saltzberg, Red Bull also have a team in New York where a certain ex Arsenal, Juventus and Barcelona striker called Thierry Henry plies his trade. In 2007 we were glad to see the back of him when he moved to the Catalan giants, alas five years later he returns on a mid-winter loan to Arsenal and scores the winner in our FA Cup 3rd round tie at the Emirates.

So is this just another flight of fancy? One of those "bloke down the pub" stories, or like his present employers, does it have wings? Henry does seem destined to return to England at some stage but this is to do TV work, apparently he was very impressive on Sky last Wednesday night on their coverage of the Champions League.

I'm unconvinced? It would be a high profile signing but for just two-months during the MLS off-season at 36 years of age and having played the last three years in the relatively sedate backwaters of the MLS? No, like those take over rumours hopefully this one will be a load of old Bull too!

Having seen a lot of the MLS over the past year I think it is a similar quality to the Championship. There are 2 or maybe 3 teams there that I think would survive in the Premiership and the rest bar perhaps another 2/3 could play at Championship level so it wouldn't be much of a step up to what Henry has become used to IF (and it is a pretty big if) he signed.

I don't mind if its the Red Bull Arena or Leeds United Red Bulls as long as they invest.
I trust David Haigh and Red Bull would be a good thing in the long run i think.

Isn't Henry going to be busy as a pundit on Match of the Day? Perhaps David Haigh needs to visit Salford Quays instead of Austria, even though it's a bit less glamorous.
