Spotland purchase closer as Hornets back share sale
Friday, 19th Dec 2014 16:06 by Col

Members of Rochdale Hornets have given their blessing to the RFL selling their shares in Spotland to Dale.

The bid to fully regain Spotland has been rumbling on for most of the year, with accusation and counter accusation appearing in the press, but it would appear the process is now one step closer to happening after a poll of Hornets members this week.

The Rugby Club held an EGM to see whether their members would give their blessing to the RFL selling their shares to Dale. The blessing was seen as an important part of the deal as the RFL were reluctant to sell the shares if they felt that it would be detrimental to the Rugby Club. The new deal provides Hornets with a 25 years lease at a more affordable rent.

The RFL had acquired the shares a number of years ago after they were put up by the old Rochdale Hornets to secure a loan with the RFL that they defaulted on.
