Matt Targett Wins Young Player Of The Year Award
Thursday, 21st May 2015 11:21

Matt Targett may not have had many first team opportunities so far, but he is earning a big reputation.

Matt Targett has a reputation as being one of the brightest young left backs in football, if he didn't have such a great and consistent player as Ryan Bertrand in front of him in the pecking order then he would have played far more games than he has already.

But his contribution to the club was recognised on Wednesday evening when he won the club's own player of the year award.

The 19 year old who only made his first team debut this season only started 3 Premier League games plus another 3 as sub along with another 5 plus 1 as sub in the cups, but did enough to suggest that he has a big future at St Mary's.

It capped a week where he also was selected for the England U21 squad.

A few of the lads have been given a chance in the PL this season and Matt and James are obviously the front runners with England cal-ups as well. In my option Matt deserves it over James - just - for greater consistency when given the chance but they are both great adverts for the Academy and nice kids to boot.
