West Ham were back in Europa League action on Thursday night and recorded a narroe win whilst Liverpool beat Brisbane Roar with James Milner on target

West Ham's long route to the group stages continued as they scraped a narrow 1-0 win in front of a near packed Upton Park in the first leg of their second qualifying tie.

It was a 90th minute strike from James Tomkins that was enough to be the difference between the two sides to give the Hammers the narrowest of margins to take into next week's second leg.

Slaven Bilic: “We knew that it was going to be like this and we had to be on one hand quick, and on the other hand patient because they were going to be with the whole team behind the ball, they were going to waste time and they were going to keep the ball when we gave it to them.

“They have quality and are totally different to the Andorran team [FC Lusitans] and, to be fair, I was really pleased with the way we played in the first half. We were just missing a little bit of quality up front and, when we hit the crossbar and with a couple of other chances, a little bit of luck."

A James Milner goal 15 minutes from time proved to be the final difference between the two sides as Liverpool won their second match on tour.

Adam Lallana had started the comeback with a sublime conversion after Dimitri Petratos put the hosts in front with a well-executed goal.

Liverpool's next stop on tour is now Adelaide
