"Mitrovic Will Add Strength To Newcastle"
Saturday, 15th Aug 2015 06:33 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

The Swans will today come face to face with one of their summer transfer targets in Aleksander Mitrovic who eventually signed for our opponents at the Liberty, Newcastle United.

There was much speculation throughout the summer that the Swans were courting the signature of the Serb but nothing ever materialised with our striking department eventually strengthened with the arrival of Eder although we of course also signed Andre Ayew who started his Swansea career with a goal at Chelsea last weekend.

It as interesting to see Ayew's debut with a goal as Mitrovic could have had one of the shortest debuts in football history when he was booked after 16 seconds for a rash challenge. Many pundits believed the challenge could have warranted a sending off but it was not to be and it leaves the player free to face the Swans this afternoon although it is expected to be off the bench rather than in a starting role.

And of course Monk will know what he will be up against should Mitrovic get onto the field having been keen to sign him.

“He will add strength to Newcastle,” said the Swans boss. “He is a good striker and, with some improvement, he could be a top striker.

“I am sure every club has looked at every striker – it’s part of what your scouting team do.

“All the top strikers are on your shortlist. I looked at him and I know what type of player he is.

“But I looked at 30 or 40 strikers throughout the summer. He was one of them but there was never anything close to coming here.”
