Monk - We Can't Just Turn Up And Win
Saturday, 15th Aug 2015 06:25 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

If anybody believed that Garry Monk may be getting a little complacent after our excellent performance at Chelsea next weekend then you can dispel those beliefs now as Monk knows there is work to be done to win today's game.

The Swans could have been the talk of the Premier League last week if it were not for a spat between Jose Mourinho and his team doctor but that should never detract from what was a brilliant performance at Stamford Bridge.

The Swans took the game to the Champions with a great attacking philosophy that shows how brave the manager can be and possibly sets a blueprint that the rest of the Premier League could follow going forward.

That has led many fans to believe that we should comfortably beat Newcastle on Saturday but we should remember there are no easy games in the Premier League and we have to work for the three points against a side who only just managed to avoid relegation on the last day of last season.

“People will look at what we did last week and think we are going to turn up here and win the game, but it’s not going to be like that,” Monk added.

“They have some good players, especially attacking-wise, and we will have to defend well.

“But if we can be positive with our football and try to get on the front foot with our fans behind us, hopefully we can produce a performance to win the game.”

The Swans will be backed by a record Liberty Stadium crowd tomorrow after the tickets sold out today and that should also see there being 20,000 home fans inside the stadium for the first time.

And we know that the fans backing the team can be worth a goal start and that is what we owe the team for what they have given us in the past 12 months.
