Ki Sung-Yeung knows a thing or two about playing at Sunderland after spending a season there on loan when Michael Laudrup decided that he didn't want the midfielder at Swansea any more.

Ki was a Capital One Cup winner with Swansea in 2013 but he was deemed by Laudrup to be surplus to requirements at the club and a loan move to Sunderland followed. Thankfully for us the shrewdness of our Chairman stopped the move being a permanent one and when Laudrup was sacked six months later Ki was welcomed back into the fold at the end of the season by Garry Monk.

Twelve months later and the supporters player of the year ended a brilliant season with his best goal tally as the Swans finished 8th in the Premier League with a record points tally. Things were looking good for Ki.

But his season so far has been less than 45 minutes as he limped out of the opening day draw at Chelsea to be replaced by Jack Cork and he was deemed not fit enough last week to play against Newcastle.

He could though be back in the reckoning for the weekend visit to Sunderland although I cannot see him starting the game as I firmly believe that Monk will stick with the side that started against Newcastle last weekend.

However a fit Ki should get a place on the bench in my view and him being back to full fitness is of course the good news that it should be

"Ki is back in training and looked fit," said Monk.

"It’s a decision we’ll have to take after the final session but the rest of the squad are ready to go."
