Did Someone Really Say Manchester United?

It was with great surprise that my phone buzzed yesterday afternoon with a text message that simply said "Man Utd in for Montero" which amazed me because I genuinely didn't believe that it could be true but after a brief exchange it turned out it was in the papers.

So when I got a chance I went in search of the interest which of course had no substance at all and actually said "Manchester United fans want Montero" and actually didn't say anything more than that as a headline.

So the text went back with a "for Man Utd read Bayern Munich but the former has even less substance" as yet another journalist let himself down with the worst link ever.

It genuinely wouldn't surprise me that Man Utd fans would want Montero. After all they have just missed out on Pedro so their next choice in their head would be a player who is near to the top of the fantasy league rankings this season so the link could well be there.

But Montero will not be leaving at this point in time and we all know that it will just take a little while for the media to get their head around that bit. My guess is it will take them until September 2nd to realise it.

Even Garry Monk had to fend questions on the subject today when he was asked about Rio Ferdinand's tweet that a top four club should take on Montero

“Well, he's not a manager of a top four team, is he? - so I think we're all right," he said.

"I'm not anticipating anything, it took me a long time to get this squad where we want it to be. We’ve taken a step forward and to let that hard work to go to waste would be criminal.

"No-one is for sale, we’re looking forward to the season, the players are looking forward to going forward with Swansea and this is the squad I want."

"Yes he can (get better). He’s done very well, come back very positive and is an example of the confidence and them stepping up because of the competition.

"He’s been excellent hopefully gets better. They all are contributing very well but we’re looking for improvement."

Tune back in tomorrow for the sequel...Swansea fans want Messi (as back up to Jonjo obviously!)
