Cattermole - Swansea Are A Top Side

Earlier in the week Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole questioned the commitment and desire of his team mates after the side lost their second game of the season and capitulated so easily against Norwich.

But now he is focused on the job ahead against us on Saturday and ready to show that there is some steel in the side although he has admitted that the game is about getting points on the board rather than anything else.

The Black Cats are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table after their two defeats so far this season and being written off by many as clear relegation fodder not just because of the results but the nature of the performances

But Cattermole has called on the team to show what they are made of this season and he wants that to start against us this weekend

"The attitude is there and the lads care; we know we have a full season to put a poor start right and we have to build positives. We also know how quickly football can change and as players we need to help each other on and off the pitch" he wrote via his column on SAFC.com.

"You have to win and lose as a whole football club. As players, staff and supporters we want to improve and we need to make the Stadium of Light a fortress.

"Nobody will shy away from the test on Saturday. The lads who have been here for three or four years will be desperate to play and the new boys who have just joined the club haven’t come here for this. We have a good squad and we have good character. We will get out of this and it is as simple as that.

"We can’t be naïve and we can’t go out all guns blazing from the start because Swansea have shown that they are a top side in this league. We have to use our experience to get a result and there will be spells when we are under pressure.

"Whether it is one point or three we need to take something from the game. This weekend isn’t about going out there and putting in a five-star performance for the fans; it is about getting points on the board and building something. "
