Prolific Gomis Is Getting Stronger And Stronger

Bafetimbi Gomis is a man on form with two goals in two games to start this season but also seven goals in his last eight appearances for the Swans stretching back to last summer.

This weekend he heads with the team to Sunderland in search of adding to that goal tally which is making him one of the hottest strikers in the Premier League.

Gomis arrived in Swansea a little over twelve months ago but it is fair to say that he didn't have the best of starts to his Swansea career having to play second fiddle to Wilfried Bony and for a while it looked as if he may be on for an early departure.

That all changed though when Bony moved to Manchester City and he became first choice in the team and the goals started to flow. Eight of his ten goals last season came after the turn of the year and with the two now it gives him a tally of ten in total and eight in the Premier League this year which is quite a tally to be proud of.

There was some interest in him in the summer and again it looked as if he could be moving on but he remains a Swansea player and will be for the rest of this year as a bare minimum although expect some interest again if his form continues.

A goal at Chelsea on the opening day and a very cool finish last week against Newcastle has started his season exactly as he wanted it to start and is drawing strong praise from his manager.

“He’s now as prolific as we wanted. I said when I brought him in that he would fit in and go forward with the squad and you can see it. You could see it when he had his chance last season and you have seen it at the start of this season" said Monk.

“I knew he could do it, I believed in him and that he could fit in well with what we are doing.

“He is more confident because of those goals and he is getting sharper and sharper and understands more what we want from him.

“He is a bright guy, he understands the game and we want him to keep scoring. He can still improve but he gets it. He picks things up very quickly and he is doing well. He is in a good moment and he has stepped up.”
