Rodriguez To West Brom ! Could That Deal Involve Berahino ?
Sunday, 21st Aug 2016 22:03

This is the time of the transfer window when it needs one deal to go through in order to spark an avalanche of last minute transfers, could Saints now be at the centre of that spark.

According to press reports Tony Pulis is trying to get Jay Rodriguez on loan, the reports intimate that Rodrguez is concerned that he is behind Shane Long. Nathan Redmond and Charlie Austin in the Saints pecking order and after over two years of injury hassles he wants first team football.

From the amount of time he has been used in the opening games, it would seem that Claude Puel is not an admirer of the England International and that has led to Tony Pulis at West Brom to try and take advantage.

He is looking to try and get Rodriguez on loan for the rest of the season, however surely Saints would not be willing to let Rodriguez go unless they had another forward lined up.

The obvious choice might be that the deal could involve Saido Berahino moving in the opposite direction with Saints having been linked earlier in the summer.

One thing is for sure Saints fans are starting to get concerned about the lack of further incoming transfers, when they see the likes of Crystal Palace doing business at £27 million for Benteke they are concerned that the Saints squad is still lacking at least two top knotch signings, perhaps Berahino might be one of them.

Love how you say "England international" like it means something!

Hasn't Berahino scored just 1 goal in his last 24 League games, or something like that? Admittedly many of them may have been as sub, and West Brom probably don't create many chances, but he's hardly prolific.

Shouldn't let Jay go, and certainly not to West Brom, he won't get much more game time and their style of play will limit him to few chances and a demotivating goal return. Better to stay, fight for a place and play 20-25 games across league and cups, more if Shane or Nathan gets injured or Jay shows enough to become a starter. The fluid front two/three we seem to want to play will suit him coming in from the left and the number of games we will play will give him chances. Stay Jay!

Given what we know about Berahino does he really pass our 'Black Box' system of recruitment that checks out a player's background to see if they will be a good fit?

This rumour seems to be backed by the Telegraph which doesn't seem to rely on lazy, idle speculation. Is it possible that Nicolae Stanciu has already signed on the dotted line? He's an experienced player with pace, strength and ability to score from inside and outside the area. I have to say I'd rather see him in the squad rather than Jay at present.

Don't think that there is much convincing evidence that Berahino is a quality player, the statistics suggest that he is far from a regular goal scorer and again we seem to be interested in as player with not all that much stature in the box.

Certainly let JR get some first team game time as a loanee, but this clearly means that we need to get another serious striker asap, I think we should also have the option of recalling JR in the event of any injury crisis

Sympathy for Jay although I think to be honest he would not be a Saints player anymore had it not been for the nightmare injury he suffered two years ago . Spurs were heavily touting him when he was in form and on the brink of a world cup place no doubt he would have jumped like the others who left him behind a little bit strange that puel says he is in his long term plans but doesn't trust him right now with tons of games coming up we need more ins not outs.
