Saints Advise Fans To Print@home For Tonight To Avoid Queues
Wednesday, 21st Sep 2016 12:21

It is fair to say that the sale of tickets for this evening's game against Crystal Palace have not been brisk, but with a big walk up on the cards, Saints are advising fans to print their tickets at home.

With three home games in six days it is not surprising that something had to give and that has meant that the demand has not been high for the visit of Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup tonight, a small part of that might be that some supporters are confusing the EFL Cup with the EFL Trophy a competition that Saints academy side is in along with Leagues one and two clubs, but the main reason is cost.

Even with subsidised tickets a non season ticket holder would have to pay out something in the region of £65 to see Sparta, Swansea and Palace and when you add transport costs etc that is a big outlay for many in a week, not to mention those who take their kids to the games.

But historically for games like this with low pre match sales there has been a big walk up on the night and that often means chaos and fans getting irate.

Indeed last night Bournemouth suffered just this fate, although the attendance was only 7,595, many of these turned up on the evening to buy a ticket and where faced with long queues with many missing the start of the game and a fair number a chunk of the first half despite the ground being only around 2/3 full.

Many Bournemouth fans have vented their fury on social media, but the fact remains that much of the chaos would not have happened if they had bought tickets in advance. In fact those that had bought tickets on line had to endure queueing to pick up their tickets.

Saints have now taken to their own social media and urged those who are intending to go to St mary's this evening to buy online and select the print@home option .

This means they can print the ticket and then go straight to the turnstile and scan in the bar code rather than have to physically pick up the ticket on the night and risk getting caught up in the type of chaos that Bournemouth fans endured.

I sometimes think that football club management have completely lost touch with their fans.

Tonight's game and for that matter Bournemouth's yesterday is an early round of a cup most people have little or no interest in. The opposition is not a "top six team" but we still want to charge £12 for a ticket and a further £2 if purchased on the night. We then tell our fans to print their own tickets or they may not get into the ground by kick off time even though the attendance will probably be well below 20000. You really could not make it up.Put simply do they want support or is all that matters T V revenue?

Why launch into an attack on the club ?

If you bothered to read the article properly, you would see that it advised on coping with an expected large walk up on the night - which cannot be predetermined because it is an unknown quantity.

Season Ticket holders and members can buy in advance and get their cards uploaded - enabling them to enter the stadium in the usual manner.

Similarly the prepurchase of tickets, or print at home option makes things easier for the fans - quicker to get in and no trip to the ticket office required (worth the 3p home print yes?)

This then frees up the ticket office to cater for the walk ups on the night.

£12 adults and kids for a fiver was a good price for the game last night. Everyone knows that there is a 2 Quid surcharge on the price of tickets bought on the night and that has been in place for many seasons. It is to encourage early purchase and reduce congestion on the night.

With a simple bit of planning, you can buy your ticket in advance (through various means) and get in to the ground quickly and without issue. The club are trying to plan methods to cater for the unpredictable numbers that turn up on the night, so make it as easy as possible for those already going, to get in quickly.

They are trying to help the fans, but strangely you cannot see this and instead choose to moan.
