LFW Weekend Championship Preview
LFW Weekend Championship Preview
Thursday, 22nd Oct 2009 22:38

LFW takes it's usual look ahead to the weekend's action in the Coca Cola Championship.

Welcome back to LFW preview of what goes on elsewhere in the Coca Cola Championship and there is a rarity this time around as we approach this weekend's fixtures - Newcastle United are not, I repeat, NOT, featured as a live game, either by Sky or the BBC. The Toon Army's clash home clash with Doncaster takes place on Saturday at 3pm, not 5.30 or 7.45, but 3pm!!!

Sky have instead chosen an interesting looking clash from Vicarage Road, as Watford take on Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow night( Friday). The Hornets save their best form for their away followers as 3 of their 4 wins this season, have come away from Vicarage Road. Completely the opposite is said of Sheff Weds who don't seem to travel well at all -  could be difficult making any sort of prediction for this one on your betting coupon's. BBC's offering this week comes from Pride Park on Saturday evening as Derby take on the in form and free scoring QPR and LFW preview of the game will be online soon...

Leaders West Brom make the short trip to the Ricoh Arena to take on Coventry, but arguably the game of the day comes from Deepdale as 6th placed Preston take on 4th placed Middlesbrough. Preston recovered from their 4-0 walloping at QPR last week, to win 2-1 away at Sheffield Weds midweek and Middlesbrough's 2-0 midweek home win over Derby, was not enough to save Gareth Southgate from the sack, with Boro Chairman, Steve Gibson apparantly making the decision to let his manager go a good few weeks ago. It is widely expected that Gordon Strachan will take up the reigns at the Riverside. Third placed Cardiff travel to Sheffield United, who are without a win in 5 games, but have today have signed Senegal striker, Henri Camara until the end of the season to boost their injury-hit strike force.

One of the stories of the season so far, is that of Ian Holloway's, Blackpool, who have sneaked themselves into the top six, almost unnoticed. The Tangerine's home form has been the key to their successes, but Holloway's men make the long trip to Swansea on Saturday. Just outside the top six are Nottingham Forest who go into their away trip to Crystal Palace on the back of 5 straight wins and are in fine form.

Elsewhere and I still find it hard to believe that at this stage of the season, I am writing about Ipswich and the fact that they are still without a league win after 13 games and currently sit at the foot of the Championship. Although even the most fickle of fans would have thought they had finally done it on Tuesday night, but a Nathan Ellington goal deep into stoppage time, gave Watford a share of the points. This week, the Tractor Boys face a real six pointer as they make the long old poke down to second to bottom, Plymouth, to take on the 'Green Army', who can boast only one home win all season. Peterborough are still finding life hard as a Championship side and the side currently third from bottom and take on the in form Scunthorpe at London Road. One consolation for Darren Ferguson, is that Scunny are not great on the road and seem to save their best form for their home supporters.

Enjoy the Weekend!!
