Clapham arrives on loan
Clapham arrives on loan

Leeds have completed the loan signing of Wolves defender Jamie Clapham, and the 31-year-old former Tottenham, Ipswich and Birmingham left-back will stay at Elland Road until September 30th.

Leeds manager Dennis Wise has wanted to bring in an experienced defender since the start of the season and Clapham is expected to go straight into the squad for Saturday's trip to Nottingham Forest. Wise felt he needed another left back after selling Eddie Lewis to Derby, although young Ben Parker played well in that position when he came on against Southend.

Clapham was unable to sign on in time to be included on Saturday, but he saw the game from the stands and was impressed by the performance. He told the Yorkshire Post "It was a terrific game. Everyone came out for that on Saturday and it was great watching it. The points deduction is not an issue. I am here to play football for the next five weeks and I am looking forward to it. At the moment it's 15 points off the top and hopefully by the end of September we'll be in the positives points-wise." Clapham has already trained with his new team-mates.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Douglas is out of the Ireland squad to face Denmark tomorrow. Officially this is due to injury after "taking a kick" in Saturday's game. A clubspokesman said "He's not travelled. He's having treatment, but hopefully he should be all right for the game at Nottingham Forest on Saturday." But inevitably there has been some speculation that he is missing the international because he is about to be transferred away from Elland Road.
