Hatters stll winless after losing to League new boys

County are still searching for their first win of the new season after slumping to a 3-1 defeat against Football League new boys Stevenage. A late George Donnelly (pictured left) goal made the scoreline look a bit more flattering for Paul Simpson's side.

County's first ever League match at Broadhall Way ended in the same result of our first ever visit to the home of Stevenage as we lost making it two defeats from our two trips. Back in 2003 County suffered a shock defeat in an FA Cup first round match after losing 2-1 although this time the two sides met on an even playing field with both sides competing in the same League.

That may not have been the case on the pitch as the hosts dominated the first half and went into the half time interval two goals to the good. Last seasons leading scorer Charlie Griffin opened the scoring in the 29th minute, as he beat Owain Fon Williams with a looping header following a Ronnie Henry cross. The Hatters faced an uphill task in the game as they conceded a second goal just before half time, as Michael Bostwick lashed home an unstoppable effort from the edge of the area.

David Poole came to County's rescue as the second half got underway as he managed to clear a Chris Beardsley header off the line. County rallied and could have halved the deficit although central defender Mansour Assomani saw his header from a free-kick hit the woodwork. County rued that missed chance moments later, as Griffin added his second of the game to make it 3-0 to Stevenage after the ball had been turned into his path following an attempted shot on goal from Beardsley.

County made the scoreline look more respectable before the game was over, as George Donnelly bagged his second of the season with a header although it was too little too late for Paul Simpson's side.

After playing well against promotion hopefuls Wycombe the previous Saturday, the performance from his players at Broadhall Way will be a major disappointment for Paul Simpson as we struggled against a side who had just come up from the Conference.
