Emnes on 21:31 - Nov 2 with 3581 views | NeathJack | Not good enough for a sustained run at this level but does have the habit of making a positive impact from the bench on the rare occasions he's called upon. Would rather him on the bench as an option instead of having both Cork & Leon on there.

Me too. No point in having both Leon and Cork there, both very good players, but unlikely to turn a game when we are chasing the game. I don’t rate Emnes at all, but he does have a knack of doing something during his Cameos

Plus if he plays with Gomis, it'll confuse the defenders

Me three. We all know he's limited, but there's none else on the bench who can offer the direct running that he does. I'm struggling to see how Eder offers more based on his all too brief appearances so far.

Emnes on 15:37 - Nov 3 with 3047 views | xmastree | I'd give Emnes a run . Has been around the english game for years, scores goals and more importantly perhaps we will stop knocking long balls in the hope that offside isn't offside.

I agree as well. Gary really does not seem one for rotating the squad so when players eventually get their chance through injury or suspension they have trouble getting up to speed. I am sure Marvin will suffer the same fate if he gets a chance. He is a player well capable of turning a game and should be given a run out. I still say Corky and / or Leon should also be in the side.

Emnes on 12:59 - Nov 4 with 2840 views | Starsky | Emnes has been used in the same way as Eder. It's fairly obvious to me that Emnes is much more effective as an impact sub. The fact that I have always thought Emnes is a good addition to our SQUAD is proof to most on here that I know nothing about football. Meh.

Emnes on 14:48 - Nov 4 with 2770 views | Davillin | Former Philadelphia Eagles coach Buddy Ryan once famously said of Chris Carter [a Hall of Famer], "All he does is catch touchdown passes," or words to that effect. From time to time Emnes reminds me of that.

I think I can see what he's getting at. I think the original quote is a damned with faint praise kind of statement and I suppose it does draw parallels with many people's opinions of Emnes - as in "he's sh!t but we should give him a run because he has a habit of flukeing a goal" or such like.

Which is fair enough but Emnes has a habit of doing something in a short burst so I certainly wouldn't ever advocate a starting place for him (not insinuating that anyone is) It is a bit like when people (one person) quotes Trundle as having the best minute to goal ratio in the Championship under Sousa. This maybe true but it was because he was being used in short bursts and that stat would never have stood up had he been given a starting line up at the time (IMO)
Emnes on 09:37 - Nov 5 with 2447 views | icecoldjack | 75 mins on the clock, who would you rather see on the field, Emnes or Barrow ? I think Marvin shades it for me, wins a few penalties and seems to make a few things happen. Could be a touch of rose tinted specs mind..

I think the most minutes Emnes ever played was 70, with one goal [please correct me if I'm wrong]. He had a couple of 14 minute appearances with one goal each. There might be others, but I can't find my numbers for that. In any case, if all he gets are infrequent and widely-spaced "cameo" appearances, how can we seriously say he "has a habit of doing something in a short burst," when that's all he gets; and that he won't do well as a starter, when he's started only once (I think)? We still rightly rave about Michu who scored 22 (I think) in all competitions. and Bony a few more than that. And how many dry games did we wait for Bony and Gomis to finally start scoring? As the saying goes, "give him a run of games." Emnes might well be the victim of closed mind syndrome. He certainly can't do worse than Gomis for a half-dozen games.

He may be the victim of a closed mind you are right but I am not sure I have ever seen Emnes as a Premier league player and certainly not someone I would want to start He does make the odd cameo appearance but I don't believe he is what we should be trying at this point in time. Eder yes I would say we should, even Ayew or even playing with a False number 9 as we know we have a midfield capable of scoring goals but not Emnes...
