Schalke 04 - A Community Club in Champions League Semis 15:48 - Apr 26 with 520 viewsRamsTrust

Great BBC item on Schalke 04, who face Man Utd in the Champions League semi-final 1st leg this evening:

Shalke are a community-led club where fans have permanent, meaningful representation on the club board - why shouldn't this happen in England, too?

The Rams have of course ascended to the semi-final of Europe's top club competition in their history.

Who's to say that we shouldn't aspire to achieve what Schalke have and be a match for the best?

Why should we accept being told that we should model ourselves on Watford or Norwich?

Fan power and community ownership has worked in Germany - so it doesn't always have to be American, Russian or Arab corporates who buy a 'train-set' club to win all the prizes as ego-trophies, does it?

Are you rooting for United out of national loyalty tonight, or do you have a sneaky hope for the mould to be broken?

Discuss!
