Stevie Howard for Derby - Says Archie! 01:40 - Sep 6 with 444 viewsRamZone_News

Archie Gemmill was assisting Colin Bloomfield on Monday's Radio Derby Sportscene phone-in, and said that it was a virtual cert that Derby would recruit former PoTY Stevie Howard on loan soon!

Gemmill also thought that taking Oakley would be a sound move as well.

He thought that the present team, though having an impressive start, would do very well to finish in the Top 10 of the Championship.

Your newshound was at a footy forum in early summer where Archie called Derby's 201-11 team 'crap' and said that he would not personally pay for a season ticket to see that! (He also said that Billy D would soon be gone from Forest....!)

There was Part 1 of a new Tom Glick interview on the phone-in, too; he explained that DCFC could 'take a pause' in the transfer activity due to the excellent start. It all fits nicely with the cautious, 'good governance' patter.

That might be viewed as a flawed philosophy - old spin reworded to justify modest outlay in the summer.

Many players signed, yes - but not much money spent nett after significant outgoing transfers over the past year - and big wage burdens lost from Hulse, Commons, Moxey, Porter, Savage and Varney leaving PPS.

It's not wise to wait for injuries, suspensions and existing squad shortages to catch up on you, is it?

Build while on top: look at Brighton - Mackail-Smith for £2.5m in summer - and a 38-cap out-of-contract Spanish international already landed in September.

Looks like we need that 'tech director' to find players and shuffle the unwanted pack into temp or permanent homes - if we ever recruit the person!

TG said they needed to move on 'half a dozen' players, so it appears that DCFC (unlike most clubs) won't carry 'passenger' players out of favour or form...so who are the six?

Leacock, Bywater, Martin, Pearson, Anderson, Buxton? (Our guess!)

TG will be crossing fingers and legs that things go well on the pitch between now and January...another bridge for him to negotiate then!
