It's early days in the summer transfer market for DCFC - or is it?

Quite a lot of "target" players will be busy with their agents - in some cases, they'll be a bl**dy sight busier than they have bothered to be for their present employers during the season - trying to get the best deal for themselves & families.

Fair enough, but how is this news of four players signing new contracts going to whip up more support for Derby?

Gravy-trainers and journeymen are no longer required, Sam.

We paying fans await the real news about players being signed that will add quality and depth to Derby's squad for a very important upcoming season for all concerned.

Completely unfathomable re-signing: why has Conor Doyle been given a new contract??

It was Clough himself that said - a full year ago now - that 2012-13 was "the season where if he's going to do it, he's going to have to blossom."

Clough did not rate him enough through the whole of last season to give him any meaningful first-team action; what there was of it is completely unmemorable.

Is he there to model the new kit (before it's sold off cheap after Christmas), or is he a condition of some GSE networking deal?

Mind you, he does save the laundry staff a job after his "squad duties" - nary a grass mark or sweat stain on his kit has ever been found. Overall though, not a good example of running lean or cutting the wage bill.

The club is so very desperate to publish some news - any news for us muppets to slaver over - that they've just proudly announced the date of the League Cup draw! I really can't wait for that, chaps!

Conor Doyle taking up the space of a good player, can't believe he's got an extended contract, must be a Yank thing?
They should have used this extra money on bring in Baptiste, a proven Championship player!!

Well, is Doyle there only because of some arcane American connection or commitment?

If so, is it the case that Clough won't play him anyway, in order to show who's in control of team affairs?

If Doyle has not contributed, a contract extension surely runs directly against the prevalent philosophy of Clough's regime - everyone makes a contribution and earns their keep, we are continually told.

Has he really done more than the latest discarded bit-part journeymen strikers like Theo or Tyson, for example?

I'd much sooner see one of those players retained, which gives some notion of forward options even at Derby's unambitious level.

Can someone at the club justify how these decisions take us forward?

It's simple Dav they don't take us forward, that's the problem, it's all talk & no action?!
