As the season commences in celebration of the Football League's 125th Anniversary, research has revealed that Derby County conceded the first-ever Football League goal - away to Bolton Wanderers on Set 8th, 1888:

Bolton winger Kenny Davenport scored against the Rams within 3 minutes!

He added another - but the Rams ran out 6-3 winners....so DCFC were also the first team to hit their opponents for 6 in the League

Shame that Rams fans will miss the celebratory Saturday kick-off, with our curtain-raiser against Blackburn Rovers having been put back to Sunday afternoon for the benefit of Sky customers.

Six goals again on opening day would do nicely, though!
