As Hodgson's would-be heroes embark on their crucial World Cup qualifier tonight, here's a very readable BBC account of the disastrous October 1973 clash with Poland, which saw the Three Lions eliminated in dramatic fashion: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24445822 Brian Clough famously predicted an England landslide and slated the Polish 'keeper, Jan Tomaszewski as 'a clown'. Brian got it wrong, big-style! The goalie pulled off a string of heroic saves; Poland broke away to grab a shock lead before Allan Clarke levelled from the penalty spot - and 'that goalie' and the desperate Polish defenders performed the final heart-breaking denial at the death, by scrambling substitute Kevin Hector's goal-bound effort off the goal-line. The memory is still horribly clear. Steve Gerrard and the lads - don't let a new Polish catastrophe haunt the Brazil 2014 bid! Come On You Lions! [Post edited 15 Oct 2013 12:09]
