Interesting you mention Dykes, Gazza, because he’s outperformed him this season, in the same division, and we put up with Dykes for years without much improvement. I also think if he wasn’t ours, we’d probably be scouting Kelman and considering him as someone who can: Score goals regularly Be more clinical Deal with physicality He also has some championship experience which would be helpful if other signings do not. Plus I think a year on loan invested by club and player is worthy of a season back with us. Maybe it makes him more valuable if he clicks at QPR too. |

I think that when Marti’s been able to play a system that suits the resources he has, he produces results. That reflects a level of relative success and I think it’s been positive for the club in general, with several players making progress and showing improvements - mostly in that(those) period(s) of greater flexibility. I think we have all got behind it when it’s worked - one way or another. There have been some anomalies along the way - weird selections, substitutions and at times, strange body language and implications in comments. I would assume some of those decisions have been mistakes and some of that’s messaging clearly aimed at others in the club. Where we have failed is when the system seemingly doesn’t suit the players and it’s clearly not his chosen system. The players get pissed off when they are not winning and some of them have also called it in when, probably because they think they are safe, OOC, facing possible injuries etc etc etc. For example, if you can’t play out from the back, why are you practising it before a critical game AND still failing at it with no opposition ?!? Madness. All of that to one side - what’s next if it’s not Marti ? The chances are that it’ll be a Nourry stooge that takes the shekels, does what he’s told and shuts the fcuk up about it. Any insight into the above shenanigans will be tied up in a settlement agreement that protects the club from us finding out for sure what happened. Then we will have a fixed system (that has never really worked with the players we have - so far), a new coach (won’t be another manager under Nourry), many new/unproven players and a bunch of fairly pissed off fans, who probably won’t be so keen to put in all those miles and hard earned cash for tickets anymore. How does the club benefit from that change ? In any possible way - short, medium or long term. Maybe 2-3 players come good in a specific position in the 4:2:3:1 formation and we sell them. Hard to see that if the club isn’t performing, regardless of how good the players are unless they are standouts like Eze. At best we’ll be in 16th position again next year and at worst, relegated if we stick to a losing system. If no one challenges Nourry’s thinking and decisions to provide some form of balance, then I fear we will regress pretty quickly. [Post edited 28 Mar 5:57]

Let’s all hope that Incontinentia doesn’t visit in a few weeks from now…. |

Thank you, Dorse - that’s a fine effort that. I can see Marti being recruited elsewhere at the end of the season as the managerial merry go round gets lubed up. I also expect his replacement to be fully compliant with the game model and system that Nourry expects to see working each week. Clearly, that’s his strategy and I don’t think he’s going to change direction. Marti is not always compliant and even when his successful disobedience means wining, it’s seemingly not enough. That relationship can’t last much longer so the recruitment of players will most likely be compounded by a new coach/manager search and possibly another disrupted pre-season. Marti’s future may well have a knock on impact on which players re-sign and which players move on, which may be another challenge. If the senior players leave and we replace them with younger models with limited Championship experience, I would not expect much next season. I just hope that I am wrong - as my wife, Brian, often tells me I am. |

Gaz had the wrong game model - loads of 10s but none small enough to make a real difference at this level. [Post edited 26 Mar 6:41]

I think the seemingly forced return to whatever system we had to play prematurely ended what was looking like a half decent season for me. Throw in some Yang nonsense and you have to wonder what the plan actually is sometimes. Whatever it is, it seems to cause more than its fair share of friction. |

Just make sure we don’t lose to the teams below us and that would probably do the job. No doubt we’ll make it much harder than that but keeping the distance from those teams and the points attrition from elsewhere would be enough. Probably end up losing to 2 or 3 of them but beating someone above us - just because that would be a QPR style approach to what should be a simple challenge. Hoping we have some recovered players to help us over the line, even if it’s via a cameo off the bench. Then onto the summer of the long knives…. |

Picked up a Zinger yesterday….then realised that our frontline could be the KFC of Kelman, Frey and Celar….in fact it’s there already with Kolli, so maybe that’s the ‘Hot Wing’ celebration nailed down. Winner winner, KFC winner. |

Just wait until the fourth official gets home and sees the damage you’ve caused with that cartwheel backflip celebration in the hallway….! |

‘Paul, what have I told you about talking to strangers in the crowd and boasting about how long it is ?’ ‘Sorry Mum, Marti told be it was big and I want to be just like Cookie when I grow up - he’s always longest in the showers.’ ‘Paul - it’s not big and it’s not clever. Would you jump in the fire if Marti told you to ?’ ‘No Mum…what’s for tea ? Can Koki come round again ?’ |
