He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy.

Luis Suarez

I really don't get the hatred for Suarez, he's got just the kind of "win at all costs" attitude we could do with more of.

If the laws aren't adequate to prevent diving being advantageous to players, change the laws. Retrospective bans for clear cases of diving would soon have an impact. Diving has evolved as a result of the rules (or interpretation of those rules) whereby refs give fouls for soft tackles which defenders might previously have got away with. There are 3 options:

1. Go back to allowing rougher play (offering less protection to skilful players)
2. Accept diving as a consequence of rules to protect attackers
3. Change the rules/punishments for diving.

Option 3 is the obvious solution - but football (read: Sepp Blatter) can be so slow to react.

But you will always get players like Suarez who will do whatever it takes to win - and fair play to him I say (maybe "fair play" was the wrong phrase!).

So if Hughes is staying... do you think we can do it?

At this stage of the season, Derby had already amassed 6 points - so we're in pole position to smash the record.

I'm offended that you're offended by what Ale spends his money on.

Wait a second, what am I supposed to be offended by again? I'm not too sure why I'm so offended, but I want everyone to know I'm offended. Who's with me?

I'll be really offended if nobody else is as easily offended as me.

Don't forget that most of the bottom 5 will think they have underperformed in the first part of the season and regression to the mean will likely see them pick up more points in the latter half of the season.

Additionally, when other teams have nothing to play for, this often leads to relegation-threatened teams picking up extra points in the run-in.

Having said that, looking at the stats for the last 5 years it does appear to be a relatively low-scoring bottom 5 for this stage of the season but there's not much in it:
11-12 21, 21, 20, 18, 16
10-11 25, 23, 22, 21, 21
09-10 21, 21, 20, 20, 15
08-09 24, 23, 23, 22, 22
07-08 22, 20, 20, 16, 8

The bottom placed team in 07-08 only scored 3 more points all season so at least we're already 10 points clear of their infamous record (extra points for first to name the team).

Let's be honest - bar one good season for Blackburn, he has never been prolific anywhere he's been and although only 30, I think he's had his day.

There are plenty of one-season wonders - that doesn't make them proven premier league goalscorers in my eyes either. If it does, I heard Michael Ricketts is looking for a club.

I'm obviously exaggerating to make a point. But I think there are better options out there. Is he better than what we've got? Probably. Is he going to score us 15+ goals a season? Not a chance if history teaches us anything.
