No appeal against Paynter’s ban Monday, 21st Mar 2011 17:35 by Tim Whelan
Leeds have reluctantly decided that due to a lack of video evidence available from Saturday’s defeat at Sheffield United, there is no realistic chance of a successful appeal against Billy Paynter’s three match ban. Paynter was sent off after an off-the ball clash with Shane Lowry towards the end of the game, and as there was only one camera filming the action, it didn’t capture the incident properly. Referee Michael Jones has admitted that he didn’t see it either, but he confirmed in his report that his assistant had seen an alleged head-butt. Paynter denies this, and he can’t have hit Lowry that hard, as the Sheffield man was able to jump to his feet immediately and shart pushing Paynter. Leeds have asked Lowry to make a statement in Paynter’s defence, but Lowry declined, even though he was at Leeds for a three month loan spell last season. Paynter will now miss the games against Nottingham Forest, Millwall, and Derby County, but Simon Grayson isn’t too downhearted. He told the official site "I'm disappointed that Billy will miss three games, but I'm confident in the players we have here." In other words, it’ll give someone else a chance, such as Mc.Cormack or Somma, and we might even be better off as a result.
