Saints At Derby The Preview

Both Saints and Derby want to break a long drought on Saturday.

For Saints that drought stretches back to 1st December last year, the last time they won a league game on the road, a 2-1 win at Leicester City, whilst Derby won only one game out of the 38 Premier games last term, that being a 1-0 win over Newcastle on the 17th September.

That being the case perhaps both teams will fancy their chances of ending their barren run, in Derby's case after an opening day defeat at home to promoted Doncaster Rovers, their fans will be looking to see if they have what it takes to bounce back from a losing culture.

For Saints fans, all eyes will be on what Jan Poortvliet does in his team selection, in truth we dont have a lot of choices at present, but the arrival of Jack Cork does offer a choice of shuffling the defence around a litte with Cork able to play anywhere along the back as well as midfield.

Realistically I dont expect too many changes from the side that started last week, however the crucial decisions will be on the bench, I would expect to see cork at least on there, alongside Paul Wotton Bart Bialkowski and then I would hope that Nathan Dyer and dare i say it Bradley Wright Phillips would offer attacking options and the chance to snatch something late on (all pun intended)

Slowly but surely Saints are building a side, but now they need to take that extra step and get at least a point, if they can do that then they will hopefully have the confidence to push on a bit, the truth is that Cardiff posed a more difficult fixture than the visit to Derby, the truth also is that our young side has learnt a little bit more in those two weeks and with the arrival of Cork has a little more depth and options, they just need to keep their faith in themselves and prove to all and sundry that they have what it takes.
