Knight Future Still Unclear

Knight Future Still Unclear

The future of Leon Knight is still unclear after Barnsley appeared to rule out a permanent move for the striker in January.

Knight has been on loan at Oakwell for a month after falling out of favour at Swansea but he has failed to set the world alight meaning that the side that beat Swansea in last year's play off final have some thinking to do

"I don't know whether we will be looking to sign Leon next month - at this stage I wouldn't rule it out and I wouldn't rule it in," Barnsley chairman Gordon Shepherd told the Western Mail

"Things like this need to be discussed. We have a caretaker manager in charge (former Swansea midfielder Simon Davey) and we have to listen to his recommendations.

"If Leon had scored three or four goals for us, it would be an easy decision. Unfortunately he hasn't netted any goals, although you have to judge a player's all-round contribution, and he's played quite well.

"He's with us until January 1, so there's still time for him to stake a claim for a contract by scoring a few goals."

Knight though is enjoying his time at Oakwell despite his nil return on the goal front

"I'm enjoying my time here - who knows what might happen," he said.

"I might stay here for the long term. A lot depends on what the club do in appointing a full-time manager.

"Me personally, I'd give it to Simon Davey, who's doing a good job as caretaker."

And just the other day, chairman Huw Jenkins had this to say on the Knight saga ''There are no ifs or buts or worries about what's going to happen with him. ''I can't control any of that and our club's not going to hinge on what does happen. ''All I care about is Swansea City putting together a consistent run of wins over the next few weeks.'

''The most positive thing going into January is that whatever happens, at least the episode should be concluded. ''Kenny has made his stance clear from a football point of view and it's up to me now to deal with the contract side of things. Hopefully, any grey areas will be ironed out in January."
